Canton, OH – The Canton Police Department received its latest addition to the police force fleet this week. This armored truck will be used by the SWAT team on rescues, high risk operations and drug raids, said Lt. Dennis Pellegrino. It can hold up to 30 people, and features 21⁄2-inch-thick windows. Pellegrino said it’s the “heaviest armor you can get for a non-military operation involving officer safety and victim rescue.” The $195,000 vehicle was paid for predominantly through confiscation of money and merchandise police seize when arresting drug dealers and other criminals. Pellegrino said about $50,000, however, came from a local estate and had been earmarked for the vehicle.
