The Fresno Police Department has recently expanded its tactical fleet with the addition of a new Lenco BearCat G3. This new vehicle complements Fresno PD’s existing BearCat G2, which has been in service since 2006, and shared amongst Fresno PD, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, and Clovis PD. The new G3 will be operated solely by Fresno PD and offers enhanced capabilities to keep officers safe.

Advanced Features of the BearCat G3

The BearCat G3 is built upon the proven foundation of the BearCat G2, incorporating several enhancements to meet the evolving demands of modern law enforcement:

• Enhanced Off-Road Capabilities: Equipped with a heavy-duty suspension, increased ground clearance, off-road wheels, and run-flat tires, the G3 ensures mobility in challenging terrains.
• Ballistic Protection: Maintaining the same .50 caliber-rated armor as its predecessor, the G3 offers robust protection against high-powered rifle threats.
• Spacious Interior: Designed to accommodate 10–12 fully equipped officers, the G3 provides ample space for tactical operations.
• Advanced Technology: Features include 360-degree cameras for enhanced situational awareness and a counterbalanced roof hatch system.

Community Impact

The BearCat G3 will be deployed in various high-risk scenarios, including active shooter incidents, hostage rescues, and barricaded suspect situations. Its presence often serves as a deterrent, encouraging peaceful resolutions without the need for force.
