Brazos County Law Enforcement Unites for Public Safety
Law enforcement agencies across Brazos County, Texas, have come together to acquire a state-of-the-art Lenco BearCat G2 armored rescue vehicle. The BearCat will be shared among the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, College Station Police Department, Bryan Police Department, and Texas A&M University Police Department. By pooling resources, these agencies have shared the financial burden while ensuring each department has access to advanced tactical capabilities.
“It just made sense for us to go in and purchase this vehicle together so that we could kind of share that cost in the community.” – Lt. House, Brazos County SWAT
Advanced Capabilities for High-Risk Situations
The BearCat G2 is purpose-built to support law enforcement in high-risk scenarios, allowing officers to approach dangerous situations with greater safety and effectiveness. High-risk scenarios include hostage rescues, barricaded subjects, and active shooter incidents. The vehicle’s design and systems enable tactical teams to operate from a protected position, enhancing their ability to resolve incidents safely.
Key features for high-risk situations:
- Armored construction to protect officers from gunfire and other threats
- Capacity for up to 12 fully equipped responders
- Advanced communication systems for secure negotiation and coordination
- Mobility and maneuverability in urban environments
“In the past, officers would put themselves in harm’s way because that’s what their training—and their hearts—tell them to do. Now, we’re giving them equipment that provides a bit more safety during these dangerous situations.” – Lt. Brock, College Station PD
Critical Support for Disaster Response
Beyond law enforcement, the BearCat G2 is a versatile asset for emergency and disaster response. Its rugged construction and high ground clearance allow it to navigate challenging conditions, helping officers and rescue teams reach areas impacted by natural disasters or other emergencies.
Key features for disaster response:
- High ground clearance for navigating debris or flooded areas
- Durable, all-terrain tires and suspension for rough terrain
- Spacious interior to transport personnel, medical supplies, or evacuees
- Built-in lighting and communication systems to coordinate rescue operations
“They’ve been used successfully for high water rescues and things like that. So, it just allows you to get into places that other vehicles can’t quite go to.” – Lt. House, Brazos County SWAT
Enhancing Officer Safety and Community Protection
“I wish that there was never a time that we would have to use it, but the reality is we will use it, we just hope that we never have to test the ballistic capabilities of it.” – Lt. House, Brazos County SWAT
The acquisition of the BearCat G2 represents a major investment in both officer safety and community protection, and Lenco is honored to support this mission. By providing officers with the tools necessary to handle high-risk situations effectively, the BearCat G2 contributes to a safer environment for all.
