September is National Preparedness Month

We Can Help with That

Benjamin Franklin famously said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail,” a sentiment echoed by the Boy Scouts by way of their motto “be prepared.” And don’t those words hold great meaning and a recommendation? In honor of National Preparedness Month, and with so many ways our products help to prepare (and respond to) the unexpected, we thought a blog was in order. Sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and organized by the “Ready” campaign, National Preparedness Month is broken out into distinct themes each week, which we discuss below (and with a Lenco tie-in.)

Week 1 September 1–5: Make a Plan

The recommendation for the first week of the month is to “talk to your friends and family about how you will communicate before, during and after a disaster.”

The advice is sound, but bringing the focus to work and how Lenco specifically can help, we want to highlight our line of rescue and response vehicles and point out the many customization options available. Talking about what is needed within your organization and communicating those needs to our sales team will help you discover the model to best meet them. After the plan is laid out, the build can commence, and you and your team can complete the first step of preparedness: planning complete.

Week 2 September 6–12: Build a Kit

The Ready campaign’s second recommendation is this: “Gather supplies that will last for several days after a disaster for everyone living in your home. Don’t forget to consider the unique needs each person or pet may have in case you have to evacuate quickly. Update your kits and supplies based on recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control.”

We know our vehicles need space for teams in full gear to respond to a scene, and civilians may also need to be present in the vehicle. Built on a Ford chassis and featuring under-seat and above head storage, all our vehicles can accommodate the kits you build and transport in your line of duty. Week two complete.

Week 3 September 13–19: Prepare for Disasters

To do week three of the Ready campaign justice, you should “limit the impacts that disasters have…and know the risk of disasters in your area.”

During this week, reflect on your training and response plans. You know your area and the needs of your community better than anyone, but we can anticipate and help you carry out your operations. We pride ourselves on serving as the industry leader and are constantly listening to customer needs, and refining our models and offerings to meet them. If you have ideas to help add to our line, we welcome your feedback. Together, we can help protect defenders—and those being protected—around the world.

Week 4 September 20–26: Teach Youth About Preparedness

During week four, we hope you’ll take Ready’s advice about talking to children. While they specifically encourage a dialogue to discuss emergencies and how to prepare for them, we encourage a broader scope.

In today’s political climate and time of uncertainty with the pandemic, what better time to serve as a role model for our youth? Show them that they should be prepared and not scared. Demonstrate that there are good people in the world ready to serve and protect them. Heck, this sentiment can even be shared with adults. And since there isn’t a Hallmark card that can express it, we recommend you demonstrate it through words and actions.

Everyone could use a little help and hope right about now.
